Sarah Laing’s Talking Mural

27 Oct–10 November

Te Auaha windows, 65 Dixon St
Free

We are thrilled to be working with artist and writer Sarah Laing (Let Me Be Frank, Mansfield & Me), Te Auaha and Wellington City Council on a special, one-off mural project for Verb Festival. From 27 October you can come to 65 Dixon St to see Sarah Laing’s re-writable talking mural. The scene is a day in Pōneke some time in the near future. What are our Wellingtonians talking about? You decide!

To Submit Your Words:
We will be changing the words twice-weekly and documenting the changes.
To submit your words please follow these instructions:

1) Check out the digital image below.
2) We suggest choosing a segment of the mural to concentrate on.
3) Send us your words by email either sending us a copy of the mural with your words clearly written on it (you can do this with a digital tool, or by printing it, writing on it, and taking a photo or scanning it back to us); OR write an email with the lines of dialogue alongside the numbers that correspond with the speech bubbles (they are numbered in the image below).
4) Keep your word limit to 5-6 maximum in a bubble. And where the bubble is small, make it really short!
5) Will will not publish any language that is discriminatory, hateful, unkind or cruel so don’t bother with that.
6) All languages are welcome!

Over the festival weekend there will be times where you can come down and write up your own words on the mural and we’ll capture it for the online archive.

Visit the mural at the following times to write up your words and make it speak your language!
Saturday 9 November: 11am - 12pm; 2pm - 3pm
Sunday 10 November: 11am - 12pm; 2pm - 3pm

Proudly supported by Wellington City Council.
