In 2018 we ran the first Micro-Residency programme in collaboration with Starling Journal. We wanted to offer an opportunity to an emerging writer to have space, support and community within our festival context. Each resident receives a stipend and is hosted by a Wellington organisation / space who generously supply the all-important place to think and write. The residents are selected through an application process and each resident appears in a festival event. It was a wonderful experience with five Wellington galleries (City Gallery, Enjoy, Meanwhile, Bartley + Co Art, Bowen Galleries) hosting six incredibly talented writers in 2018. You can read about their time on the Pantograph Punch here, and can read the residents work on Starling here.
Thank you to the very generous patrons who supported our 2018 micro-residencies. If you would like to support a resident in 2019 please contact email@example.com
For our 2019 Verb Festival we are partnering with Sweet Mammalian journal for the micro-residency programme. Sweet Mammalian is a fresh space for poetry and is edited by Morgan Bach, Hannah Mettner and Sugar Magnolia Wilson. We will update you on the Sweet Mammalian residents a little later in the year. The micro-residencies will run over the Festival weekend (in 2019 that is Sat 9 - Sun 10 November)
Residencies in development:
We are developing two longer residencies: one for an international writer and one for an Aotearoa writer. If you are interested in supporting with space, accommodation or with a stipend donation please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Huge and heartfelt thanks to Rachel McAlpine, author and Verb residency supporter!
