Nicola (Tau Iwi) teaches English and psychology, and coordinates the Eco Action Group at Kāpiti College. She first became involved in environmental and social justice education and activism in the mid-80s, inspired by her English teacher at Onslow College. "The continual rise in greenhouse gas emissions and loss of indigenous lands and biodiversity over those 30+ years is completely criminal and heartbreaking". Many of Nicola's poems deal with the natural world, humans included. Her second collection of poetry, 'Working the tang', was published last year by The Cuba Press. Nicola has been a guest poet of the Queensland and Tasmanian Poetry Festivals, and loves the poetry communities of Aotearoa and abroad.
