Indigenous-led Publishing with HUIA x Magabala Books

  • Meow 9 Edward Street Wellington, Wellington, 6011 New Zealand (map)

Two literary giants, two of the world’s foremost Indigenous publishers - a milestone event not to be missed. Join Eboni Waitere (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rangitāne), Director at HUIA and Bebe Backhouse-Oliver (Bardi Jawi) Director at Magabala Books in Australia as they speak to the space they hold for their communities in the wider literary landscape.

This event is supported by the Australia High Commission, with Bebe Backhouse-Oliver appearing as a guest of both Verb and Te Hā o Ngā Pou Kaituhi Māori. Enjoy this rare opportunity to hear from two leading proponents of self-determined Indigenous storytelling, whose publishing houses have paved the way for their communities to be heard clearly, loudly and unequivocally for the past 30+ years.

A discounted ‘Ticket + book’ bundle is available for this event for a copy of Bebe Backhouse-Oliver's more than these bones. If purchased, your book can be collected from Unity Books, 57 Willis Street, Wellington in advance of the festival, or at the event from Unity's book table.
