Becky Manawatu (Ngāi Tahu) was born in Nelson and raised in Waimangaroa, and she lived in Germany and Italy before returning to the West Coast with her family. Her debut novel, Auē, won the Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction 2020, and this year she is living in Dunedin as the Robert Burns Fellow, writing her second novel Papahaua.
